Uyo - Gunmen have attacked the official residence of the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Uyo, Prof. Comfort Ekpo, firing bullets into her premises but no life was lost during the incident.
This is contained in a statement issued by the Registrar of the University, Edak Umodak, on Thursday in Uyo.
The statement said that it took the gallantry of security men attached to the residence to repel the hoodlums.
"The gunmen, who were spotted by the fence engage in a gun duel with policemen on duty and later zoomed off in their parked vehicle.
"The University of Uyo is grateful to God that no life was lost in the encounter,” the registrar said.
Umodak said the authorities of the university had alerted security operatives on the incident.
She alleged that the vice chancellor was attack because of her determination to entrench culture of discipline and hard work in the institution.
"It has become very necessary to alert members of the public about the escalating violence against our amiable vice-chancellor.
