Fight against terrorism: Military has received N130b from Jan - April - Okonjo-Iweala
While presenting the 2014 budget signed last week by Pres. Jonathan to newsmen, the Coordinating Minister of the Economy and Finance Minister revealed that the Nigerian military has received N130.7billion from the Federal Government from January to April 2014 and that another N3.8b has been approved by the president but was still being processed and will soon be released to the military.
She revealed this to deny claims by the Nigerian military and other security agencies that poor funding was undermining ongoing war against terrorism. Defending the huge amount being spent in the military, Dr Okonjo-Iweala said;
"Defence spending is top in everything. You know that military establishments need new things to assist them in their work, and ours will not be different. No budget will be enough to meet their demands but for now, I think the sector takes almost a trillion of the budget.”
"The defence budget in 2014 is about N968.127 billion and we have disbursed N130.7 billion between January and April 2014, N85.9billion out of what has been disbursed is for personnel cost.

Sunday Sun reports;
Three other women, Nkechi Ugochukwu, Maria Asomba and Esther Obi, who allegedly played roles in the sale of the baby were traced to Onitsha, Anambra State and arrested by the police.
Enugu State Commissioner of Police, Mr Mohammed Adamu who disclosed this, toldSunday Sun that Huma got pregnant while prostituting. Her boyfriend who was not quite ready to bear the responsibility of fatherhood rejected Huma’s pregnancy.
Incidentally, Huma already had two children, who were being cared for by her mother. So having another child out of wedlock was not an idea that appealed to her one bit and she decided to relieve herself of the burden of caring for the baby.

Clarion Chukwura slams Ibinabo in new interview + wins AMAA best actress
Clarion Chukwura, who won Best Actress in a leading role at the 2014 AMAA awards which held on Saturday May 24th, is still attacking AGN president Ibinabo Fiberesima. In a new interview with Yes magazine, Clarion said her recent attacks on Ibinabo is not based on jealousy, but only trying to bring dignity back into the guild
"If Ibinabo recognized me as a senior colleague, she would have picked up her phone and called me at one point or the other, before or during her leadership. She had never done so. That is one. Two, I was privileged, with the manner she spoke during the issue of the murder case for which she was convicted, and I didn't see that attitude as someone you should dialogue with. Three at the Nollywood at 20 event, there was not that kind of rapport that okay, you are my senior colleague, at the helm of the leadership of the guild, if you have anything that can assist me in my position, you can please reach out to me. Ejike Asiegbu called on me and I assisted and played my role in every area he asked me to play my role. Zack Orji invited me at one point or the other to and we worked together"
Yvonne Okoro Disgraces Iyanya Over Yvonne Nelson
It seems most Ghanaian actresses are up in arms against Nigerian singer, Iyanya Mbuk, over his love gone sour with Yvonne Nelson.
The latest actress to join the fray is Nigerian/Ghanaian actress, Yvonne Okoro, who gave Iyanya a very serious attitude at the just concluded Ghana Music Award, for having the effrontery to use and dump her colleague in what she believes was a very callous way.
According to an industry source, the Kukere master had a bad time at the Awards when he made attempts to dance with Yvonne Okoro while performing.
We gathered that after some awards were given out, it was Iyanya's turn to perform and while performing his hit song, Your Waist, he invited Yvonne Okoro to join him on stage and 'wind her waist'.
But to his surprise, the pretty and voluptuous actress declined and was heard whispering to close friends that if Iyanya should get close to her, she would give him a resounding slap.
She reportedly said:
Look at this fool. So he thinks Ghanaian actresses are playthings for him. Let him come close to me and I will land him a dirty slap.
As much as Iyanya kept urging her to join him, she declined and when the shame was becoming to much for him to bear, she reportedly got up reluctantly and joined him just for a few minutes and even at that, she did not spend up to two minutes before she went off the stage.
So much for hurting one's colleague.
WIZ KHALIFA ARRESTED For Weed at Airport
Wiz Khalifa was arrested early Sunday morning at an airport in Texas … after a “green leafy substance” was found during a TSA check.
The “Black and Yellow” rapper was flying from El Paso to Dallas when TSA officials discovered the green stuff … according to law enforcement sources. Wiz was taken into custody and turned over to local police.
We’re told cops concluded the obvious — the leafy substance was marijuana — and that’s against the law in those parts … so he was arrested.
Cops say he was in possession of 5 grams of weed.
Wiz clearly isn’t that concerned … he tweeted a jail selfie.

The battle line is now drawn between the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, and the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, with the CBN top shot accusing the revered man of God of aiding and abetting corruption by shielding the former CEO of Intercontinental Bank PLC, Erasmus Akingbola, a member of Adeboye’s church, who has been indicted for various financial fraud while he held sway at the bank before it was liquidated.
Sanusi said that Adeboye has been the one making the prosecution of Akingbola, who allegedly stole over N200 billion from the commercial bank by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, impossible.
The CBN front man claimed that Pastor Adeboye’s involvement in the deal and his intervention in getting the judge who was handling the case, Justice Habeeb Abiru, promoted to the Court of Appeals has truncated the case as that enabled Akingbola escape to the UK as soon as the EFCC indicated their desire to try him.
He was later forced to return to Nigeria, but his prosecution soon fizzled out, due to Adeboye’s interference, according to Sanusi.

We are not ashamed to be called the church of the rich – Oyedepo
The Founder of Living Faith Church aka Winners Chapel, Bishop David Oyedepo, in an interview with Saturday Punch said the reason there are so many rich people in 33 year old church is because they know better than others and understand the importance of tithe (Let's not start with this tithe talk abeg, if I start now, we will start fighting here...lol). Anyway below is excerpts from the interview...
Why are there so many rich people in Winners?Because they know better than their contemporaries. If you don’t know what you have, you won’t know if you are deprived of it. The Bible is an open chequebook, it is by revelation we access what belongs to us; by faith we take delivery of it. Someone had access to our empowerment programme and she is a pepper seller, while others sell one basket a day, she sells six, seven. I learnt she had become the envy of all the pepper sellers in her area. Such person has an understanding that whatever she does, she prospers and she knows that when she pays her tithe, she experiences open heavens. But in case people don’t know, they perish for lack of knowledge, and in case they think when you are rich you miss heaven, then they perish for lack of knowledge.
So, it’s right when people claim that this church is only for the rich?
It’s for all the people who believe that Jesus already paid for them to be rich. And those who don’t believe, when they come they start believing when they see it happen in a lot of people’s lives. And we are not ashamed to be called the church of the rich. If they call your family poor, will you be excited? Nobody would be excited. Even when a family is poor, they hate to be called poor. No man in his right mind enjoys being called poor, and nobody truly wants to be poor, people may pretend. Which is more honourable between being a giver and a beggar? Most of us came in very poor, but the light of God’s word came on us and we walked out of poverty in grand style into wealth and riches.
How come there is such wealth in the church despite the poverty in the nation?
The kingdom of God is funded by God’s resources. We are not funded by the economy of the world, but by the economy of the kingdom, which has a budget for all of its agenda on earth. We’ve been here since 1999 and we have never had power outage or water shortage. The main players are Nigerians, the builders are Nigerians. There is no building here that any foreign expert took part in. There is no foreign company’s presence here, including the tabernacle. Some of the revered foreign companies here in Nigeria are technicians in Germany, and they are all political contractors, not that they have something special to offer.

Stop The Discrimination! HND Is As Good As BSC: Poly Student Tackles Education Minister In Open Letter
Student union a leader thinks the HND/BSC dichotomy in the Nigerian education system has to stop
Nigeria's Supervising Minister, Wike Nyesom, has been accused of making "untimely and diversionary" moves with regards to the lingering Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) strike which has left polytechnic students at home for nearly one calendar year.
Com. Ogbonnaya Sunday, the National President of National Association of Polytechnic Students (NAPS) made the accusation in an open letter to the Minister of Education titled 'A CALL FOR ACTION.'
The Minister had recently set up a committee to review polytechnic curriculum but the student leader says it arouses suspicion coming so late.
"..We think that the committee set up by the Federal Ministry of Education is untimely and diversionary," Ogbonnaya wrote.
"We see no sense in setting up a committee to review the curriculum of a sector that has being on strike for nearly eleven (11) months owing to the inept stand of the Federal Ministry of Education in resolving the ongoing industrial crises in the polytechnic sector," Ogbonnaya wrote.
Ogbonnaya however said the problems facing polytechnics can traced to the regrettable HND/BSC Dichotomy.
"The problems that confront students and graduates of that session are colossal, but all can be traced to one thing – the discrepancy between HND and BSc," the letter read.
Ogbonnaya said the ASUP-FG face-off must be resolved quickly, failing which polytechnic students would take drastic measures to drive home their point.
"We call on Federal Government to resolve the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) strike within a forth night or face the challenge of taking Nigerian students to detention as we are bent on going back to the classroom or staying and sleeping at the gate of the international airport in Abuja."
READ FULL TEXT OF LETTER BELOW:
Barr. Wike Nyesom
Supervising Minister,
Federal Ministry of Education,
Federal Secretariat, Abuja.
Sir,
A CALL FOR ACTION
On behalf of Executive Council of the National Association of Polytechnic Students (NAPS), I bring you our reverential solidarity greetings.
The NAPS is the umbrella body of all Polytechnics, Mono-techniques, Colleges of Technology and other Allied Institutions Awarding National Diploma (ND) and Higher National Diploma (HND) across the six geopolitical zones of the Federation and Diaspora.
This Association, which is the second largest student movement in Africa continent, has been in the vanguard of campaign for equity, justice and good governance, free and qualitative education for over two decades. The contribution of our noble association in bringing about our nascent democracy cannot be overemphasized. NAPS is an affiliate of the International Union of Students’ (IUS), All African Students’ Union (AASU), West African Student Union (WASU) and has a consultative working relationship with UNESCO, UNICEF and ECOWAS.
I write to convey the displeasure of Nigerian Students of Higher National Diploma (HND) and Ordinary National Diploma (OND) awarding Institutions. The problems that confront students and graduates of that session are colossal, but all can be traced to one thing – the discrepancy between HND and BSc.
We therefore wish to put it on record that the wishes of these students are as follows:-
ON THE COMMITTEE OF REVIEW OF POLYTECHNIC CURRICULUM
While there is a need for frequent review of curriculum of all education segment to meet up with International standard, best practice and current trend, we think that the committee set up by the Federal Ministry of Education is untimely and diversionary. We see no sense in setting up a committee to review the curriculum of a sector that has being on strike for nearly eleven (11) months owing to the inept stand of the Federal Ministry of Education in resolving the ongoing industrial crises in the polytechnic sector.
We wish to state without equivocation that the duty of reviewing the curriculum should be such that the lecturers and necessary professional bodies are carried along as members of the said committee but that should be after the ASUP crises have been put to a halt.
ON HND/BSC DISCRIMINATION
While we commend the Federal Government for setting up a committee to look into the HND/BSC discrimination, we believe that Government has made a monumental mistake by not including HND holders in the committee setup to look into the matter. It beats our imagination that in a committee setup to solve a problem, those that are affected by the problem will not be part of the committee rather the committee will be made up of those who have always believed that “should HND holders have equal opportunities with the BSc holders, the former will make the later look ordinary”.
Consequently, we demand the immediate inclusion of HND holders in the committee headed by the secretary to the Government of the federation as this is the only way we can have trust and confidence in the committee.
ON ASUP STRIKE
We call on Federal Government to resolve the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) strike within a forth night or face the challenge of taking Nigerian students to detention as we are bent on going back to the classroom or staying and sleeping at the gate of the international airport in Abuja.
Yours in Nation Building,
Com. Ogbonnaya Sunday
National President (NAPS)

Ice Prince took to his Twitter to unleash some strong words for the president to chew over.
